Welcome and Introduction

Awesome Trombone Links Thank you for taking the time to visit. You are very important to our success. We have redesigned this site with you in mind to make navigation easier and faster than ever.

Since 1995 Awesome Trombone Links has been known as a growing resource of shared information between trombonists. After surviving several transformations, including random periods of inactivity, irregular updates, moving from free web servers at universities, to free servers that no longer exist, to paid servers that eventually became too expensive, this site has found a refreshing new home with a Canadian hosting provider. The enthusiasm and excitement can still be felt from these pages. Have fun looking around and discovering interesting things about the trombone.

Despite the fact it costs money every month to keep this website alive, our goal is to provide these webpages to you free of charge. Thank you for supporting Awesome Trombone Links. With your help we can continue to serve the latest and most informative details about the world of the trombone.

Don't worry, this is actually a national job database from SimplyHired. Use as many trombone-related keywords you can think of on the job board to narrow down your search. Lots of possibilities here, including marching band director, trombone auditions, low brass and trombone instructor, and much more. If you so desire, you can post job opportunities here to increase your exposure to potential employee candidates.

Update: Until the end of the day on Sunday, June 1, 2008 we want to provide you a special discount code for an unlimited amount of job postings! When post a job on our job board, enter our special discount code 76trombone to receive a 76% discount.

Trombone Lessons

Taking trombone lessons is just a fact of life. But giving them sometimes requires a little bit of help, such as scheduling, keep track of mileage, reminders, financial accounting and collecting lesson payments, student progress reports, and more. That's why we recommend Music Teacher's Helper. You can track up to three students for free, and they have several pricing plans called Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Each pricing plan carries with it a free 30-day trial period. Start your own trombone studio, or improve your "back office" administration, so you can focus more on trombone and music.

Counters and Statistics

We've got numbers! Some of this data is useless, but interesting. These counts can help us make a case for advertising rates and estimating server load, among other things. We've had a few of these going for a while. We'll probably phase them out in favor of server stats from our hosting company. That way it will be behind the scenes and less intrusive. In the meantime, let's formulate a rough picture, based on these various counters, of who is visiting and where they might be located on planet Earth. There have to be a few reasonable explanations, but it's kind of funny to see the differences between each report.

Unique number of visitors: Bravenet says more than 90 thousand since 2002. eXTReMe Tracker says more than 29 thousand since 1999. Gostats says nearly 97 thousand since 2002. Webstat says nearly 53 thousand since 2002. Sitemeter says more than 53 thousand since 2002 when the counter started with 5,000 visitors. Motigo Webstats says more than 43 thousand unique visitors since 2002 (merged with Nedstat around 2005). Doteasy counter plugin says more than 30 thousand since 2005.

Average number of unique visitors per month: Bravenet calculation (18/day x 30 days) is about 540. eXTReMe Tracker says 274 when you average the lowest numbers with the higher counts of 569, 414, etc. Gostats estimates 7,525 per month (wow, how can that be right?). Webstat says (25/day x 30 days) is about 750. Sitemeter says (21/day x 30 days) is about 630, but has a traffic prediction of 846. Motigo Webstats says (26/day x 30 days) is 780. Doteasy estimates (23/day x 30 days) about 690.

Web browser wars: Bravenet says Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 is seen more than 64% of the time. eXTReMe Tracker agrees, and sees MSIE 6 about 48% overall. Gostats says MSIE. Webstat says the MSIE category about 80% of the time. Sitemeter only gives MSIE 6 third place at 20%, but it does show MSIE 7 second place at 27%, and Firefox first place at 35%. Motigo Webstats only gives MSIE 6 third place at 7.5%, but it does show MSIE 7 second place at 13%, and Firefox first place at 73%. Doteasy is hard to tell.

Screen resolution: Bravenet says 1024 by 768 is seen more than 53% of the time. eXTReMe Tracker says that one comes in second, with 800 by 600 being the most popular almost half of the time. Gostats is hard to tell, but it could be 1024 by 665. Webstat is hard to tell. Sitemeter gives 1024 by 768 second place at 28% and 1280 by 1024 first place at 37%. Motigo Webstats gives 1024 by 768 second place at 13% and 1280 by 1024 first place at 81%. Doteasy is hard to tell.

Operating system: Bravenet declares Microsoft Windows XP the winner with more than 63% of the vote. eXTReMe Tracker agrees at 54%. Gostats is in agreement. Webstat only says Microsoft Windows, no breakdown by version, was seen 92% of the time. Sitemeter says XP is used by about 70% of the visitors. Motigo Webstats says XP at 90%. Doteasy is hard to tell.

Visitor location: Bravenet is hard to tell, but they do have HTTP referrers and IP addresses in their log files if we wanted to manually review something specific. eXTReMe Tracker says many visitors are from Europe, and fewer are from Asia, Africa, South America, and Central America. Results from top search engines that helped people find our website include Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Dogpile. Gostats is also hard to tell because of the limited report range in their free counter, but there are a lot of visitors from Australia and from the United Kingdom. Many people are using Google search and Wikipedia to find our website.

Page hits detail: Bravenet says about 58 thousand page views since 2002, with an average 1,110 views per month. eXTReMe Tracker says more than 36 thousand views since 1999, with an average 503 views per month. Gostats says more than 103 thousand views since 2002, with an average 1,468 views per month. A majority of visitors look at five pages or less before they up and leave after an average of nine minutes.

web log stats

Other notes: Bravenet says Tuesday is the most popular day to visit, and almost nobody is willing to venture out at 5:00 am. The busiest time on average is around 9:00 am during a typical day. eXTReMe Tracker agrees with Tuesday, and the fact nobody seems to be around between 3:00 am and 5:00 am! But says the busiest time is 4:00 pm. Gostats agrees with Tuesday, and people missing in action at 5:00 am! But insists the busiest time is 7:00 pm. Webstat is hard to tell, but I'll bet it's Tuesday! Sitemeter is hard to tell. Motigo Webstats agrees with Tuesday, and the huge dip in traffic between 2:00 am and 6:00 am! The busiest time is around 3:00 pm. Doteasy is hard to tell.
